Preventing High Blood Pressure

Apparently there is an alarming trend in the rate of High Blood Pressure or Hypertension depending on how you want to view it. The incidence of Hypertension, having been in decline over the past three decades is increasing.

In the United States of America they reckon that there are a staggering 50 Million plus people over the age of six who are sufferers of High Blood Pressure. High Blood Pressure is an insidious disease. The reason for this is that it actually has very little in the way of outward symptoms or warning signs.

If you were to do an analysis of those suffering from High Blood Pressure then you would find that 30 percent of those suffering from it are completely unaware of the fact. Hypertension, if left untreated and left to go about its business will possibly cause more overall damage to the bodies organs than almost any other condition known to Man.

Hypertension is the single most important contributor to the incidence of stroke, one of the biggest killer diseases known to Man. Heart Disease, another one of the complications due to High Blood Pressures is the largest killer, claiming over 500,000 deaths each year in the United States alone. How does reducing your lifespan by up to 20 years grab you? That is what could happen if High Blood Pressure is left untreated.

It is almost essential that I you are diagnosed with High Blood Pressure that it is diagnosed as quickly as is possible. In fact such is the desire to ensure that as few people suffer from High Blood Pressure that the threshold for High Blood Pressure i.e. the level at which it was deemed safe to have Blood Pressure, has now been lowered so that we now have a condition known as “Pre High Blood Pressure”.

Nowadays the levels at which High Blood Pressure occurs have been reduced in attempts to spot it as early as possible. Sustainable changes to your lifestyle are an important part of the whole new approach to the treatment of High Blood Pressure.

It has now been proved that with every 20 point rise in Systolic pressure or 10 point rise in Diastolic pressure from a base point of 115/75 mm Hg, that your likelihood of suffering a fatal Heart Attack or attack of Stroke actually doubles. The external signs and symptoms of High Blood Pressure may not be that obvious to the lay person, to the expert they can be spotted quite easily. Sometimes to treat High Blood Pressure, all that has to be done is effect certain fairly basic lifestyle changes whilst in other cases this has to be supported by additional medication.

Nowadays, with the information at our disposal, there is certainly no reason why High Blood Pressure should be the Death Sentence it once was. At the end of the day we all probably know someone with Hypertension but that we also in all probabilities know someone who has yet to realise that they suffer from Hypertension.
